I kind of have. My gf and I both have Mazda 3s. Hers is 2012. Mine is 2015. Different platforms but both have the skyactiv drivetrains. Same engine, auto and manual trans. Does that count?

I haven’t done that, but I have driven the actual same car in both auto and manual... After a swap.

I have. E90 328xi manual and 325i automatic. I’ve also driven the E90 LCI 328xi automatic.

Close enough I guess...

Closest I’ve come is my stick shift Mazda3 and an automatic Focus Titanium. Sure, the Focus is on an updated version of the platform my Mazda shared with the previous generation Focus, but it’s very obvious the two are related once you get behind the wheel.

I have with the OG NSX. In auto, it was the single worst car i’ve ever driven.

I have, kinda. Driven both the stick and auto, the hatch and notchback, and the 4 cyl and V8 version of the Fox Body Mustang

First car was an ‘85 notchback (2.3/auto), and I’ve owned 2 5.0/5 Spd LX hatches.

Never have I ever driven an automatic miata tho :D

I test drove an automatic Dakota before ordering a manual. I’ve driven automatic and manual Rams as well.

I have not either. I have however driven the same automatic in multiple different cars.

I kindof have. I have a 2009 Hyundai Accent hatchback with a manual - my brother and mother have a 2009 and 2010 Accent sedan, respectively. Same engine, but they have automatics.

The automatics feel very gutless by comparison...

The closest I’ve gotten was a ’94 Chevy pickup (manual) vs. a ’95 (auto). But the ’94 was a V6 1500, and the ’95 was a V8 2500, so it’s not really a fair comparison.

(wracks brain)

Manual Mk3 Focus and automatic Mk2 ?

That’s as near as I go.

Wait a minute - automatic Mk2 Fiesta (the short lived Fiat/Ford CVT) and manual Mk3.

When Snuze was in the shop I got an auto Snuze as a rental. But it was the 2016 Limited model (i.e. the one made to be a rental car), so everything in it was slightly different, just enough to be disconcerting.

I bought a 99 XJ auto, then latter bought a 93 XJ manual. I regret buying the 99 as an auto.

I’ve come pretty close. I currently own a ‘92 2-dr XJ sport (I.e base model), 4.0/ax-15. In the past I’ve owned a ‘93 4-dr, 4.0/aw4 country (so pretty high trim level). I’ve also driven a ‘90 2-dr sport with the 4.0/aw4, but while it looks the same externally there’s a pretty big gulf between the Renix and HO’s.

Actually check that. I have driven a 2016 Colorado 4-banger auto and a similarly configured 2015 with the six-speed. The automatic is slow, the manual distracts you from the slow.

Scratch that. I just remembered that I’ve driven auto and manual versions of the Gen6 Civic. Two stick shift coupes and an automatic sedan.

In high school we had a manual and automatic Chrysler minivan AT THE SAME TIME. I drove them both on the same day sometimes. Man, that was confusing.

Never have I ever owned a vehicle with a manual transmission.

(may change tomorrow though)

I’ve done this a few times, too. Wanted a manual, but the dealer only had autos to test drive. so I test drove the auto and ordered the stick. A leap of faith maybe, but it’s always worked out.

My car feels really peppy and eager to be driven hard, I wonder if that character changes with an automatic.

They were similar enough that it was easy to forget which one you were driving. But the manual was clearly a lot more fun to drive. It was an easy car to learn on, too. I actually learned on a different manual minivan, a brown ‘86. Also very smooth.

I remembered I also drove an automatic version of my mom’s 2000 Subaru Outback as a rental, and almost got t-boned becuase the automatic didn’t have the balls that I knew my mom’s manual one did.

I’ve also driven automatic versions of my car (E46) and been pleasantly surprised, they’re not bad.
